Colors, Textures & Design Elements For Easy Fall Decorating

Falling leaves, chilled winds and pouring rain can only mean one thing… It’s autumn again. If you love autumn like I do, you will adore these fall designs I have for you. Today I'm talking about the living room and I will try to inspire you to bring autumn into your home with simple, yet eye catching details. Traditional fall colors are those found in nature — burgundy, brown, gold, orange, yellow. Contemporary choices include gray, apricot, tan, rusty red, green, and bursts of color like eggplant, teal and turquoise.

There are many great color combinations for fall. Apricot works well with teal or aqua. A green/orange/brown combination is both feminine and masculine. For the nontraditional, consider aqua, cream and tan. Or how about purple-to-reddish/maroony plums and yellowy bright golds on a sage-to-olive background with very small amounts of creamy apricot. And warm gray looks great with burnt orange or turquoise.

The ottoman, the central piece in this design, makes it all come together as one of the greatest fall designs ever. The decorative pillows also add some color and bring out the richness in the ottoman, making it fit in the overall design.

It is great to have a basic, neutral room design so you can accustom it to any occasion or season. This is a universal design that has been adapted to autumn. You can easily do this in your own house just by adding some orange and wood decorations.

A few easy tips on how to use these autumnal colors are to bring outdoor elements indoors and to use a handful of fall-colored accent pieces that will make your living space pop. Decorate with gnarly wood and twigs, beautiful leaves, acorns, berries, apples, and mums. Use rugs, pillows, throws or even a new lamp shade for your accent colors. Candles, pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn—pick a few of these elements and bring the outside in!

  1. Back in the 70's we had orange carpet, bought a renovation house and it has orange carpet too! Don't think I'd ever buy an orange couch, even though it made nice photo's for this post.
