Dreams Of Grandeur: The Routh Street House, Dallas Texas

Can we talk about dreams for a minute? Not the kind that come to you in your sleep; but life-long dreams. I have dreamed of owning a Bed and Breakfast. Thinking about the idea makes me happy indeed. Running a small (1 cottage) B&B would
allow me to utilize all of the passions I yearn to fulfill; decorating, cooking, entertaining and travel, without too much fuss and muss.

Last night, as I was cruising the homes for sale in the Uptown area of Dallas, I came across a magical home. Why magical you ask? Because this little house on Routh Street, in the State Thomas Historic District, was made just for Mr.P and me. I know it was. It was built in 1899 and it has been waiting for the Porters for 115 years. The Routh Street house is the perfect home for a couple with an empty nest, who love city living, need office space at home with the added bonus of a guest house that has been anticipating visitors for over a century. These charming guest accommodations would make a wonderful get-away rental for any discerning couple. I could even leave breakfast on their porch! How fun would that be??

Located is the DFW area, the fourth largest metropolitan area in America, this stunning and utterly unique property has been renovated to pristine perfection and would provide the ultimate setting for experiencing Uptown at its finest! On the first floor you'll find a beautiful entry, a cook's kitchen, dining area, and two wonderful living areas. A hidden hinged bookshelf opens to stone steps descending to a barrel-vaulted, fabulous basement wine cellar/tasting room with a fireplace. On the second floor there are two separate large office spaces, and a bedroom and bath; while a classic balcony from the main hall offers additional outdoor space. The third floor's lovely bedroom suite features a balcony with stunning views of the Dallas skyline. If that weren't enough to make you salivate, an adjacent totally renovated shotgun house is a real Dallas treasure. Within it's walls there lies  a full bath, fireplace, living area, large bedroom, small kitchenette and a bonus room for a studio, or exercise room. Entertaining is made easy with two outdoor dining venues using a built-in gas grill, stainless steel cabinets, and a large classic farm sink set in the manicured backyard.

The house is only two short blocks from the trolley stop on McKinney, making the Routh St. house not only accessible to the Uptown region of Dallas but to downtown Dallas and the arts district (where you can catch a DART train and go anywhere) as well was the West Village. It's close to restaurants, coffee shops, quaint antique stores and other unique shopping, movie theaters, museums, and concert halls. They are all just a stroll, trolley or train ride away. The Routh Street House - it's Uptown and it is perfect! Now where can I get my hands on 1.5 million?????

  1. Great. Now I have envy issues to deal with... ;) Stunning home. What's 1.5 mil in the grad scheme of things? You'll make that back in no time with the B&B. ;)
