The Art of Homemaking: How-To Fold a Fitted Sheet

We have two newlywed couples in our family. Both of them being married less than a year, I have thought a lot about them lately. Praying and hoping all good things for them.

When Mr.P and I first married, there were many things
I didn't know how to do, folding laundry being one of them. Yes, as sad as that sounds, I was not trained in the art of folding laundry.

T-shirts were one thing, but a fitted sheet just blew my mind.

Most of us learn by trial and error, which frankly takes a long time and can be rather frustrating. How did I learn to fold laundry? Mr.P taught me the ins and outs of folding a fitted sheet.

So this simple little post goes out to all of the newlyweds out there that may not know how to fold laundry! Congratulations on your newly wedded bliss and may you have many years of folding laundry together!

Folding fitted sheets instead of simply scrunching them up is a handy way to both keep your linens organized and to conserve as much storage area as possible. Whether you're a neat freak or just somebody who likes to save space, you can gain plenty from learning how to effectively fold a fitted sheet. It's a simple process and once you get the hang of it, you'll soon be folding fitted sheets like a pro!

1. Stand holding the sheet by the two adjacent corners of one of the shorter edges. With the sheet inside out, place one hand in each of these two corners.

2. Bring your right hand to your left, and fold the corner in your right hand over the one in your left, enveloping it. Next, reach down and pick up the corner that is hanging in front; bring it up, and fold it over the two corners in your left hand; the corner that's showing will be inside out.

3. Bring the last corner up, and fold it over the others; with its right side showing, it should envelop the other three corners.

4. Lay the folded sheet on a flat surface and straighten it into the shape shown.

5. Fold the two edges in so all the elastic is hidden.

6. Fold the sheet into a rectangle.

7. Continue folding until the rectangle is the size you want it to be. Stack neatly in your linen closet.
