Easy Ways To Decorate With Pumpkins

Whether they line a country path, add classic appeal to an entryway, or enhance a seasonal table setting, vibrant pumpkins bring delightful harmony to our autumn décor. The quintessential symbol of fall, everyone's favorite gourd welcomes the season with effortless grace.

A heavy urn provides a sturdy base for an eye-catching tower of pumpkins. Create a similar display by stacking the gourds in a planter, largest to smallest, on a soft cushion of moss. Wide, flat heirloom varieties, such as the popular white “Fairytale” and the showy orange “Cinderella” pumpkins, work well for this arrangement. A mossy-green “Jarrahdale” perches on top, as bittersweet softens the design. Chalkboard signs atop white, mini pumpkins make charming place cards.

A rustic garden table features a whimsical vignette that showcases the bounty of fall. Green plants add color, while reindeer moss and carved wooden mushrooms (don't they look real?) lend earthy charm. Terrariums house “Jack Be Little” gourds. All these decorative elements come together for an enchanted effect. Passers-by will be tempted to stop and investigate for awhile. And children might listen for the flutter of woodland fairy wings as they slip through the foliage. I would. Wouldn't you?

A bounty of “Jack Be Little” pumpkins, my favorites, overflow a rough-hewn bowl. Pumpkins combine with complementary fall accents to create a relaxed theme for outdoor entertaining. Get out there and check out your local nursery for a variety of pumpkins and gourds. I found all of these beauties and their displays at Jackson's Home & Garden in Dallas. It's a great way to get ideas for your own autumnal home. ENJOY OCTOBER!
