Grand Central Market, NYC

When traveling to NYC we like staying in the middle of midtown Manhattan, close to Grand Central Station. As we make our way in or out of the station, depending on the time of day, we enjoy wandering through Grand Central Market. This small, but super varied market is filled with delicacies galore from around the city.

Grand Central Market is a long, often very crowded arcade of food stalls on one end of Grand Central Terminal. We think of it as a pit stop for commuters, a mecca of prepared foods and last-minute dinner staples, which it is, mostly. But it's also the only place in the city you'll find Penzeys Spices, and there are other great sources for the home cook.

On each end of the market is Greenwich Produce, where you can pick up fruit and vegetables. There’s a cheese stand from Murray’s cheeses offering Brie, Manchego, Ombra, from Catalonia, and of course my favorite the Clothbound Cheddar from Cabot Creamery - a great snacking cheese. Murray's Real Salami, a separate vendor, sells all kinds of smoked and cured meats. You can pick up a fantastic sandwich here, made from great breads, cheese, meats and produce all found in the market. Pescatore, a seafood shop has deals every day of the week. Salmon, fresh sardines, Cod and more. And then there's Penzeys. They have everything, from basic herbs to spice blends made for specific cuts of meat, and it's all reasonably priced. There are many more vendors, but many focus on prepared food by-the-pound. Such as the delicious Italian food from Ceriello. It's a great place to pick up a quick and easy dinner after a long day.

I know this place becomes a zoo around rush hour, but if you're in the neighborhood (or passing through), it's worth a stop. Grand Central Market is certainly committed to excellence and quality. It's a wonderful one-stop shop where you can buy the best of NYC's food, some of which can only be found here!  http://www.grandcentralterminal.com/market
