SPRING DIY: Pedestal Birdhouses

This is such an easy, EASY do it yourself project for Spring or Summer. Grouped together these sweet birdhouses make an impressive statement. Even though it may not feel like Spring outdoors just yet, you can bring Spring to your home. Actually, I can see 4 or 5 of these shabby chic bird houses sitting on my coffee table, fireplace mantle or kitchen table. I am SO doing this!

 MATERIALS YOU'LL NEED

  • Unfinished birdhouses purchased from your local craft store
  • Old candlesticks, go to Goodwill or any other thrift store
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Brown stain
  • Acrylic paint, I like all white but you may enjoy the pastels of Spring
  • Sand paper, fine grade

WHAT TO DO

First, Using a glue gun attach birdhouses to wooden candle sticks.

Second, Stain all natural wood. Use a dark stain. Using a sponge brush, apply stain and leave pedestal birdhouses to dry. Drying overnight is best.

Thirdly, Paint using your choice of color.

Lastly, Using sandpaper, distress birdhouses so
that a bit of the brown stain peeps through.

You're all done!

I REALLY like the all-white look.

What a great project for those of you with 'cabin fever'.
Let your kids help, they will love this easy Spring project...
...you'll be glad ya did!

ENJOY!
